THE BISHOP'S MESSAGE
FISHERS OF MEN
MARCH 9, 2025

If you are travelling on the highway from Montego Bay to Kingston, and there was an oil spill, a tanker carrying oil, overturned and spilled the oil on the roadway, your car missed it by an inch. Wouldn’t you want to warn, the oncoming travelers, those coming from Kingston, using the same highway, that there is trouble ahead. Wouldn’t you tell them not to take that route, for to come upon that oil spill at full speed, is sure death! Wouldn’t you tell them to take another route?
This is an oversimplified scenario, but one that can be used to explain the Gospel mission. We are called and given a message, to tell with urgency, for unless we move fast with our message, men’s lives will perish. The message is, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Rom. 3:23 and “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes...for in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: the righteous will live by faith Rom. 1:16-17

The message that we take, is the Word of God, it is already tested and tried we can’t rely on our own. It is the Word that will break through the unbelief of men, the hardness of hearts, the pains and sorrows of men, the deception and bondage of sin and of the wickedness of the Devil.
It is the Word that will bring light, illumination, access into the things of the Spirit, and usher men into the new way, the Way of Life. “For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Rom. 6:23
Then we tell men, the how of salvation.” That if you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. Rom. 10:9-10

Lastly, the assurance of salvation, “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Rom. 10:13
Jesus Christ is God’s plan for mankind. It is a message that was concealed in the Old Testament, but now revealed in the New Testament. With these words, we arm ourselves to go fishing. Fishers of men, fishers of men, Lord make us fishers of men!
